When you get ready to jump into the world of entrepreneuralism, it is so important to have mentors.
Whether you work directly with them or just watch how they do things, find people who inspire you to go after your dreams.
3 Women I look up to and admire in the business world are...
- Marie Forleo, Business Bad Ass
- Melissa Camilleri Anicich, The Softer Side of Business
- Allison Crow, by Biz & Life Coach~Quirky. Fun. Real.
Me & Marie Forleo. Back in 2011, on a whim, I decided to head to NYC and attend an event that Marie Forleo was putting on. Here is how that happened.
It was strange because, I had never heard of her. I discovered her via the power of the interwebs. I can’t even remember how, you know, because of rabbit hole of the internet. Nevertheless, I found her. Within a few hours of devouring everything about her online, I found myself signed up for her in person business event called Rich Happy & Hot LIVE.
I had no idea this event would change the course of my entrepreneurial life. I was also headed to NYC by myself!!! I was recently divorced and just beginning to make decisions just for me. You could say that this was a HUGE leap of faith.
When I arrived (I was a little late, airplane delays) I walked into a room full of about 300 business women! I am pretty sure my world stopped right there. I had never seen anything like it before. Music, dancing, movement, conversation. It was all happening and I was jumping in.
The event lasted 3 days and it was magical.
I had, at that point, been running my little Ceramic Hand & Footprint business our of my home, for about 11 years. And of course I LOVED it. But what I didn’t know, was that there was a world full of WOMEN creating their own kick ass businesses too. I had always just kept my head down and my eyes on my own paper, so to speak.
I was blown away!!!
I really had NO IDEA that there was a world full of movers and shakers that looked just like me.
2011 was the year I created my Ceramic Handprint Training Program and I was looking for ways to get it launched and into the world.
I was at the perfect place.
It was so inspiring to see other women, just like me, looking for a way to leave their mark in this world.
Women from all over the globe, with business ranging from fitness, to life coaching, to artist, musicians, authors, etc. You name it and they were there.
Marie, herself is a fire cracker. She is full of life and pulls no punches. She tells it like it is and inspires on a whole new level I had never seen before.
Reflecting back on that experience is actually bringing tears to my eyes.
I was changed that weekend. It was beautiful.
The next year, I went on to work with Marie in a more intimate setting. She was offering a weekend workshop, for about 23 people. I signed up. I went. It was a HUGE investment, $5000. But I knew I had to be there.
At that time I was looking to build a bigger reach for my Ceramic Handprint Training program. But, I also felt a call for something else. Soul Searching Girl. Soul Searching Girl was/is my story of leaving my faith and helping those who find themselves in a similar situation. You can find more about that over at amyloganlife.com
Long story, and I will go into it at another time, but Marie helped me steer the ship on that project too.
I remember talking to Marie privately and talking about my “not knowing what to do” story that I had on repeat. She grabbed my shoulders and said, “Amy, just make a decision.”
That was probably the best business advice anyone had ever given me.
Whatever it is that you are wanting to do or not do. Make the decision and follow the road that it takes you down.
That single sentence, from Marie, changed everything.
I continue to follow Marie to this day. Marie has TONS of free content. I gobble it up. You should too. She, of course, has business programs you can purchase too. Her most popular one is B School. A fantastic online program to help you grow any business you are thinking about starting.
Marie, incase you happen to see this....thank you. Thank you for opening up a whole new world for me. I am forever thankful that you were my conduit into the amazing world of online entrepreneurs. I am forever thankful and forever inspired by you.
You can find all things Marie over on her site, MarieForleo.com
Now that this post has gone on longer than I thought it would. I am going to spotlight my other two favorite business ladies, in another blog post.
Silly me for thinking I could do them all justice in one post! HA!
